The Strategic Planning Council is undertaking a big project of coming up with our next Strategic Plan. Many activities are planned to move that task forward. Today's presentation by Kaliah Greene, Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness, will provide more information on these important developments.
The Assessment Advisory Council is looking for volunteers. This offers a great college-wide service opportunity to anybody who is interested in learning more about the institution as a whole.
Governance Awards for Academic Excellence and Service & 2017 – 2018 State University of New York Chancellor's Awards Luncheon will take place on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Lombardi's on the Bay, 600 South Ocean Ave, Patchogue, NY 11772. The Eastern Congress is voting on the Resolution on Renewed Shared Governance Process on October 2. We would like to introduce a similar resolution at our November meeting.
The Technology Committee held its first meeting of the year on September 25, 2018. We welcomed new members William O'Connell (Communication, Arts) and Yvon Joseph (Language and Transitional Studies).
Your Technology Committee representative may have sent you the link to our annual technology survey. Please complete the Survey of Technology Needs in Grant 2018 and give us your assessment of technology on campus.
The Technology Committee arranged for Jason Fried, Information Security Officer in the Office of Information Technology Services, to give a presentation on cybersecurity on Wednesday, September 26.
An issue was raised regarding Blackboard and uploading student assignments. This summer, Blackboard underwent a major update. Since then, there have been issues with compatibility when using different browsers. A Browser Compatibility chart is posted on the OpenSUNY web site.
We also discussed access codes that come with some of the textbooks. Professors need to provide necessary information to their students with the class/section numbers that the students need to access the online material correctly. ETU cannot help with that information.
ETU installed Windows 10 on approximately 1,200 machines over the summer. The Virtual Desktop Initiative (VDI) that was piloted in the LRC's Information Commons was a success and is being expanded to the Math Department.
The members of the Physical Development Committee are excited to report the completion of the new walking labyrinth located between Sally Anne Slacke and Sagtikos buildings. The Labyrinth will be used as a quiet, meditative space by the campus community and will double as an amphitheater for small theatrical and musical events, poetry readings and the like, and as an elegant outdoor classroom, which can be booked through 25 Live. There are benches enough to seat 28 people. If you haven't yet seen the new labyrinth, we invite you to go and do so.
The Committee would like to thank Dr. Keane for his vigorous support of the project and also Dr. Fellenz for the initial concept and Joe Fraccalvieri and his team for the wonderful job they did. It was a wonderful project to work on.
Idea proposal forms can be acquired outside of Sagtikos, Room 218, which is Michaelann Tostanoski's office.
The committee will have its first meeting on Friday, November 2.
The Class Size Committee will meet on Thursday, November 1 and Thursday, December 6 on the Ammerman Campus.
We do not have any new proposals for this semester as of yet. We are awaiting supporting materials for a proposal that was tabled in the spring semester. As for now, the goal of the committee will be to vet and vote on this proposal if nothing new is received by the end of September.
The committee has not met since the last Assembly meeting.

The Alumni Exhibition will feature the current work of a number of our former students who are involved in successful careers in the arts: Mickey Aloisio, Martica Apicella, Nelson Echeverria, Liz Fusco, Eileen Lang, Grace Pentecoste, Jenn Rinchey, Tonito Valderrama, Alexia Velez.
Please feel welcome to attend and show your support at the opening and see the exhibition. There will be a panel discussion at the close of the exhibition that will attempt to enlighten our current students about possible carreer paths in the Vusual Arts and Photographic Imaging.
The COL 295 class of Professor Danielle DiMauro-Brooks will be hosting their first event as part of Wellness Week on Tuesday, October 2 from 4:20-5:45 in Captree 114 called The Power to Create Change: The personal, academic and career benefits of volunteering (see the Fall 2018 Wellness Week flyer)
On Tuesday, October 16 from 7:00-8:10 in Captree 113, the class will be hosting a Meet and Greet evening common hour. Come to this event to learn about the first ever 3 credit college seminar course and the benefits that offer networking, scholarship and resume building opportunities. The event will feature free giveaways and food.
The History classes of Professor Danielle DiMauro-Brooks will be hosting an Evening Common Hour on Monday, October 22 from 7:00-8:10 in the HSEC Lobby in celebration of LGBTQ History Month. Interactive displays, memorabilia, and photographs that reflect the various contributions to our society will be shown.
