The New York State Department of Education issued an Extension of Distance Education Flexibility for the 2021-2022 Academic Year
In the meantime, our College is planning for approximately 50/50 face-to-face/online fall 2021 semester. On the departmental level, faculty are given a choice of their preferred modality. The schedule is constructed with flexibility in mind: the initial offerings are somewhat limited, but as sections fill up, new sections will be added to meet the demand.

The committee has not met since the last Assembly meeting.
The Developmental Studies Advisory Committee hasn't met a single time this semester, and no future meetings have been announced.
The Committee met on March 4. Adoption of the new LMS was discussed. Succinctly put, there were more questions than answers.
The committee looked into the interoperability and congruencies between BB and D2L. In the past we were able to transfer courses directly over. At this time, it is unclear if that will be possible.
It was also mentioned that the timing of the transition over Winter Session was not ideal as we will have less time to prepare for the Spring than we would have for the Fall. That could change (pending SUNY negotiations). We are also investigating timelines related to access to the new LMS. Until the contracts are signed, a lot of that information is still being negotiated. As more is brought forward, We can keep you updated. Not much will be communicated until the contracts are signed.
One point of importance was related to a BB update coming in May. BB will no longer be supporting Flash and will only support Java. This will not have a huge impact on the LMS functionality however, it could impact some of the educational tools used by some instructors. At this time it is unclear as to how many instructors use the potentially impacted tools and IT will be working on the backend of things to get ahead of the update to try and mitigate any potential issues.
Our next meeting will be on Friday 4/2 at 12 PM.
In April of 2020, 40 members of the SPC voted to affirm the current Strategic Plan (2013-2020) for one year, until August 2021. On March 26, 2021, the Co-Chairs of the SPC proposed affirming the current Strategic Plan (2013-2020) until December 2021. In addition to keeping the College in compliance with accreditation standards, affirming the current Strategic Plan until December 2021 will allow the Council to conduct additional focus groups and distribute surveys, analyze these data, and engage the College community in completing the strategic planning process. The vote on this proposal is ongoing and will close on March 31.
The Strategic Planning Council is also planning to restart the 2020-2027 Strategic Planning process in April 2021 and conclude in December 2021.
